Literacy Skills:
Novel Studies, Phonics, Grammar, and Lexicons
The literacy skills will consist of:
This page will be used to upload the cover sheet for each weeks Literacy Skills. That way you can have a digital copy in case you lose yours.
- Students will be put into Novel Study groups every nine weeks, depending on their reading level.
- They will be given certain chapters to read each from their books.
- They will use Thinking Stems to think critically about what they have read.
- During the week we will have group-teacher meetings talking about our thinking stems.
- The students will also have vocabulary that they will be required to make a Lexicon with. Writing the definition of the vocabulary word, writing it in a sentence, finding a synonym, finding an antonym, and drawing a picture of their vocabulary words.
- They will have a Literacy Skill that they will have to find examples from their book. For example: compare and contrast. They might have to compare or contrast two of the characters in their books.
- The last part is their Grammar or Phonics section. They will have to find examples of these objectives inside their novels as well.
